Caspase-10 also known as CASP10 is a protein which is a member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family, which consists of cysteine proteases that play a vital role in the apoptotic process. Caspase-10 is primarily located in the cytosol and is essential for initiating apoptosis by activating downstream effector caspases such as caspase-3 and caspase-7 in response to apoptotic signals. Proper functioning of caspase-10 is critical for maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing uncontrolled cell proliferation, which can lead to various diseases, including cancer. Dysregulation of caspase-10 activity has been implicated in several pathological conditions, highlighting caspase-10′s importance as a potential therapeutic target. |
