Cytokeratin 20 also known as CK-20, Keratin 20, KRT20 is a member of the keratin family. Cytokeratin 20 is primarily located in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells, particularly in the gastrointestinal tract, where Cytokeratin 20 is abundantly expressed in goblet cells and enterocytes. Such localization plays a significant role in maintaining the structural integrity and function of epithelial tissues, which are essential for barrier formation and nutrient absorption. Cytokeratin 20 serves as a valuable marker for pancreatic and colorectal cancers, aiding in the differentiation of various carcinomas, including distinguishing renal oncocytomas from renal cell carcinomas.
