A20 functions as a negative regulator of nuclear factor κ B (NFκB) signaling, which is essential for controlling immune responses and preventing excessive inflammation. By inhibiting NFκB activation, A20 helps terminate inflammatory signals, maintaining cellular homeostasis and preventing potential tissue damage.
