UBA3 also known as UBE1C  is a 463 amino acid protein that plays a crucial role in the ubiquitin-proteasome system, which is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis. UBA3 is primarily located in the cytoplasm and nucleus, where UBA3 activates NEDD8, a ubiquitin-like protein, thereby regulating vital cellular processes such as cell division, signaling pathways, and embryogenesis. UBA3 functioning is critical, as dysregulation can lead to various diseases, including cancer, due to the accumulation of improperly folded or damaged proteins. UBA3 exists in two isoforms resulting from alternative splicing, which may contribute to functional diversity and regulatory mechanisms within different cellular contexts.
