DLX1(Distal-less homeobox 1) is a member of a homeobox transcription factor gene family similiar to the Drosophila distal-less gene. DLX1 plays a significant role in the differentiation of progenitor cells into GABAergic neurons, which are essential for inhibitory signaling in the central nervous system. DLX1 is expressed in specific regions during development, including the craniofacial primordia and the basal telencephalon, where expression patterns are vital for proper morphogenesis and histogenesis. DLX1′s ability to regulate transcriptional hierarchies is particularly important, as this determines the fate of progenitor cells, influencing whether they develop into neurons or oligodendrocytes. |
