This enzymatic activity is vital for cellular energy production and metabolic regulation, particularly in tissues with high energy demands such as the brain, heart, and kidneys, where Hexokinase I is predominantly expressed. The regulation of glucose metabolism by Hexokinase I is essential for maintaining glucose homeostasis, and dysfunction can lead to metabolic disorders, including diabetes.
