Smad4 also known as DPC4 is a member of the Smad family of signal transduction proteins. Smad4 plays a crucial role as a central mediator in the transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ) and bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling pathways, which are essential for regulating cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. By interacting with other Smad family members, Smad4 facilitates transcriptional regulation of target genes, thereby influencing developmental processes and tissue homeostasis.
