PCM1(Pericentriolar material 1) is a component of centriolar satellites, which are electron dense granules scattered around centrosomes. PCM1 associates securely with the centrosome complex through G1, S, and part of G2. Late in G2, as cells prepare for mitosis, PCM1 dissociates from the centrosome and remains evenly diffused throughout the cell during mitosis before re-associating with centrosomes in G1 phase progeny cells. PCM1′s chromosomal location on 8p22-p21.3 draws interest since this region commonly shows deletions in several tumors. In thyroid tumor tissue, PCM1 expression significantly decreases with altered subcellular localization.
