Neuropilin-2 also known as NRP2 is a member of the neuropilin family of receptor proteins. Neuropilin-2 plays a crucial role in axon growth and guidance, acting as a high-affinity receptor for class III semaphorins and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Neuropilin-2 is particularly important in regulating physiological pathways such as angiogenesis and neural development. Neuropilin-2 is known to undergo polysialylation, a post-translational modification that enhances interaction with ligands and influences function in cellular signaling. Neuropilin-2 expression on dendritic cells and presence in venous and lymphatic endothelium highlight significance in immune responses and vascular biology. In contrast, neuropilin-1 is predominantly expressed in arterial endothelium, indicating a functional divergence between these proteins in the vascular system.
