| Product Description | |
MOG(Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein) is a membrane protein expressed on the oligodendrocyte cell surface and the outermost surface of myelin sheaths. MOG plays a crucial role in the central nervous system by contributing to the formation and maintenance of the myelin sheath, which is essential for proper neuronal function and signal transmission. MOG is primarily located on the surface of oligodendrocytes and the outermost layers of mature myelin, where MOG facilitates cell adhesion and stabilizes microtubules within oligodendrocytes. MOG is a target for autoimmune responses that can lead to demyelination, significantly contributing to the pathology of multiple sclerosis (MS). Alternative splicing of MOG has resulted in the identification of various isoforms, which may have distinct functional roles in myelin biology and disease processes. |
