Glut4 also known as SLC2A4 is a member of the solute carrier family 2 (facilitated glucose transporter) family. Glut4 is a protein that functions as an insulin-regulated facilitative glucose transporter. Glut4 translocates from intracellular storage vesicles to the plasma membrane in response to insulin, facilitating glucose entry into cells. Unlike Glut1, which is constitutively present at the plasma membrane, Glut4′s dynamic regulation is essential for adapting to varying metabolic demands. This function maintains energy balance, and disruptions in Glut4 expression or trafficking are linked to metabolic disorders like obesity and type 2 diabetes.
