| Product Description | |
SORD(Sorbitol dehydrogenase) also known as SORD1 is a 357 amino acid enzyme that belongs to the zinc-containing alcohol dehydrogenase. SORD plays a crucial role in the metabolism of polyols. SORD is predominantly expressed in the kidney and lens of the eye, where SORD catalyzes the zinc-dependent conversion of sorbitol and xylitol to their corresponding ketoses, utilizing NAD+ as an oxidizing agent. This enzymatic activity is essential for the proper functioning of the sorbitol pathway, which is involved in sugar production and cellular energy metabolism. Disruptions in SORD function can lead to an accumulation of sorbitol, contributing to diabetic complications such as cataracts and microvascular issues. |
