Product Description

SETDB1 also designated ESET, KMT1E is a histone methyltransferase which regulates histone methylation, gene silencing, and transcriptional repression. SETDB1 plays a significant role in regulating chromatin structure. This highly conserved protein, consisting of 150 amino acids, methylates Lys-9 of histone H3, a modification serving as an epigenetic marker for transcriptional repression. Such methylation recruits heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1) to methylated histones, influencing gene expression and maintaining genomic stability. SETDB1 shows predominant expression in testis, with SETDB1 gene located on chromosome 1q21, and mutations can lead to loss of methyltransferase activity, underscoring SETDB1′s critical role in cellular function and development.
