| Product Description | |
PRSS1 also known as Trypsin 1 is a member of the trypsin family of serine proteases. This enzyme is secreted by the pancreas and cleaved to its active form in the small intestine. PRSS1 is active on peptide linkages involving the carboxyl group of lysine or arginine. PRSS1 plays a crucial role in the digestive system by cleaving peptide bonds in proteins, thereby activating other digestive enzymes and facilitating the breakdown of dietary proteins into absorbable amino acids. This enzymatic activity is vital for proper nutrient absorption and overall digestive health. The human pancreas secretes three different isoforms of inactive trypsinogen into the small intestine, which are converted into active forms by Enterokinase. Mutations in the gene encoding PRSS1 that enhance activity are linked to autosomal dominant hereditary pancreatitis, a condition causing severe abdominal pain and other complications. |
