PRMT1(Protein arginine methyltransferase 1) is a member of the protein arginine N-methyltransferase (PRMT) family. PRMT1 plays a crucial role in post-translational modification of RNA-binding proteins, essential for regulating gene expression and RNA processing. Located predominantly in the nucleus, PRMT1 is involved in methylation of arginine residues on target proteins, influencing function and interactions. PRMT1 interacts with Interleukin enhancer-binding factor 3 (ILF3) at its carboxy terminus, which modulates PRMT1 activity and highlights the importance of protein-protein interactions in cellular regulation. Alternative mRNA splicing of the PRMT gene results in three isoforms of PRMT1, all retaining enzymatic activity, underscoring the complexity and versatility in various biological contexts.
