Product Description

COMP also known as Thrombospondin 5, THBS5 is a noncollagenous extracellular matrix (ECM) protein. COMP is primarily located in the extracellular matrix of cartilage, tendon, and vascular smooth muscle, where COMP is developmentally regulated and localized to the chondrocyte territorial and interterritorial matrix. Proper localization of COMP is vital for binding to Collagen Types I, II, and IX in a zinc-dependent manner, which is important for the stability and organization of the extracellular matrix. Mutations in the COMP/THBS5 gene can lead to serious genetic disorders such as pseudoachondroplasia and multiple epiphyseal dysplasia, both of which are characterized by skeletal abnormalities and can result in significant health issues.
