Product Description

ATP7B is a member of the P-type cation transport ATPase family. ATP7B is a protein with several membrane-spanning domains, an ATPase consensus sequence, a hinge domain, a phosphorylation site, and at least 2 putative copper-binding sites. ATP7B plays a crucial role in copper homeostasis by facilitating the excretion of excess copper from cells, which is vital for preventing copper toxicity and maintaining cellular function. Located primarily in the liver, ATP7B is essential for regulating copper levels in the body, as ATP7B helps to transport copper into bile for excretion. Dysfunction of ATP7B due to genetic mutations leads to Wilson disease, a serious condition characterized by copper accumulation in tissues, resulting in neurological and hepatic damage.
