RAGE also known as AGRE is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily of cell surface receptors. RAGE is a pivotal type I membrane protein predominantly located on the cell surface of endothelial cells, mononuclear phagocytes, and vascular smooth muscle cells, where it serves as a critical mediator of cellular responses to advanced glycation end products (AGEs) and other ligands.
