WDR1 also known as AIP1, NORI-1 is a protein containing 9 WD repeats. which are motifs that typically form a tertiary propeller structure and play crucial roles in cellular functions such as signal transduction, apoptosis, and transcriptional regulation. WDR1 is primarily localized to the cytoskeleton, where WDR1 is essential for the disassembly of actin filaments, a process vital for maintaining cellular shape and facilitating cell movement. WDR1 achieves this in conjunction with ADF/cofilin family proteins, highlighting WDR1′s importance in actin dynamics and cellular motility. WDR1′s ability to interact with other proteins and mediate the assembly of protein complexes further underscores WDR1′s role in regulating various cellular processes, making WDR1 a significant target for research in cell biology and related fields.
