Product Description

CYP26A1 also known as P450RAI1 is a member of the cytochrome P450 superfamily of enzymes. CYP26A1 is a crucial enzyme in retinoic acid catabolism, vital for regulating developmental processes and maintaining cellular homeostasis. By catalyzing retinoic acid hydroxylation, CYP26A1 helps modulate retinoic acid levels, preventing teratogenic effects during embryonic development. This regulation protects tailbud tissues from inappropriate retinoic acid levels, which can lead to severe developmental abnormalities. CYP26A1 transcription is epigenetically regulated by nuclear retinoic acid receptor β2, highlighting intricate control mechanisms governing expression. Mutations in CYP26A1 have been linked to various congenital disorders, including caudal agenesis and spina bifida, underscoring significance in developmental biology.
