Product Description

PEN2 also known as PSENEN is a protein that is required for Notch pathway signaling, and for the activity and accumulation of gamma-secretase. PEN2 plays a crucial role in the assembly and function of the gamma-secretase complex, which is essential for the proteolytic processing of type I membrane proteins, including the amyloid-beta precursor protein. This processing is particularly significant as PEN2 is linked to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer′s disease, where the accumulation of amyloid-beta peptides is a hallmark. The gamma-secretase complex, composed of presenilin, nicastrin, aph-1, and PEN2, assembles in the Golgi/trans-Golgi network compartments, leading to the autocleavage of presenilin into two subunits that form the active site of gamma-secretase.
