| Product Description | |
FADS1(Fatty acid desaturase 1) also known as D5D is a member of the fatty acid desaturase (FADS) gene family. FADS1 plays a significant role in lipid metabolism by converting linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid into highly unsaturated fatty acids. FADS1′s importance lies not only in enzymatic activity but also in structural features, which include N-terminal cytochrome b5-like domains and C-terminal multiple membrane-spanning regions that are essential for function. These structural characteristics enable FADS1 to effectively catalyze the desaturation of dihomo-gamma-linoleic acid and eicosatetraenoic acid, leading to the production of arachidonic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid, respectively. |
