Endoglin also known as CD105 is a homodimeric transmembrane protein which is a major glycoprotein of the vascular endothelium. Endoglin plays a crucial role in angiogenesis and is a co-receptor for transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β) signaling, which is vital for vascular development and repair. Endoglin is predominantly located on the surface of vascular endothelial cells, where Endoglin facilitates the binding of TGF-β ligands to their respective receptors, thereby influencing cellular responses that regulate blood vessel formation and stability. Mutations in Endoglin are associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), a genetic disorder characterized by abnormal blood vessel formation leading to symptoms such as excessive bleeding and vascular malformations.
