This transport is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis, influencing processes such as cell volume regulation, signal transduction, and muscle contraction. Notably, CLIC1′s ability to form anion-selective channels is modulated by redox state; CLIC1 exists as a monomer in a reduced environment but dimerizes upon oxidation, facilitating channel formation in lipid bilayers and vesicles.
