Product Description

Na+/K+-ATPase also known as the sodium-potassium pump is a crucial plasma membrane protein responsible for maintaining cellular homeostasis by actively transporting three sodium ions out of the cell and two potassium ions into the cell against their electrochemical gradients. This activity is essential for regulating cellular volume, maintaining the resting membrane potential, and facilitating secondary active transport of numerous solutes. Located in the plasma membrane, Na+/K+-ATPase plays a vital role in key physiological processes including nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction, and kidney function. The protein complex comprises multiple isoforms of α, β, and γ subunits, where α subunit contains binding sites for ATP and transported ions, β subunit ensures proper folding and membrane localization, and γ subunit modulates enzyme′s ATP affinity in specific tissues.
