| Product Description | |
MMP-12(Matrix metallopeptidase 12) is a member of the peptidase M10 family of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). MMP-12 plays a crucial role in the degradation of elastin, a key component of the extracellular matrix, which is vital for maintaining the structural integrity and elasticity of tissues. MMP-12′s ability to degrade elastin is particularly important in inflammatory disorders, where MMP-12 may facilitate macrophage migration through the epidermal and vascular basement membranes, contributing to tissue remodeling and repair processes. Additionally, MMP-12 gene transcription is differentially regulated by various stimuli such as phorbol ester, lipopolysaccharide, and staphylococcal enterotoxin B, highlighting MMP-12′s involvement in diverse physiological and pathological processes. |
