Ku70 also known as XRCC6 is primarily located in the nucleus, where Ku70 plays a vital role in recognizing and binding to double-strand breaks in DNA, thereby facilitating the recruitment of other repair factors. The importance of Ku70′s nuclear localization cannot be overstated, as Ku70 ensures ready availability to respond to DNA damage, which is crucial for preventing mutations and maintaining cellular integrity. Additionally, Ku70 interacts with its partner subunit, Ku86, to form a heterodimer that is integral to the non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) pathway of DNA repair. This pathway is particularly important in the context of cellular responses to genotoxic stress, making Ku70 a key player in the preservation of genetic information and the prevention of cancerous transformations. With diverse roles in DNA repair and transcriptional regulation, Ku70 is a significant target for research in cancer biology and therapeutic interventions.
