Galectin-8 also known as PCTA-1, LGALS8 is a member of the galectin family. Galectin-8 is particularly significant in prostate cancer, as expression occurs exclusively in malignant tumors, making Galectin-8 a more specific biomarker compared to other prostate-specific antigens like prostate-specific antigen (PSA), which can also be elevated in benign conditions.
