| Product Description | |
Galectin-3 also known as LGALS3 is a member of the galectin family of soluble β-galactoside-binding lectins characterized by a single carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) that is crucial for binding to galactose-containing glycoconjugates. Structurally, galectin-3 can exist in both monomeric and oligomeric forms, allowing galectin-3 to engage in diverse interactions that are essential for modulating cell-to-cell adhesion, cell-to-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, and various cellular signaling pathways. Post-translational modifications of galectin-3, such as phosphorylation and oxidation, play a vital role in regulating function, stability, and localization within the cell, thereby influencing processes like apoptosis, immune responses, and cancer progression. These modifications can alter galectin-3′s ability to interact with other proteins and carbohydrates, thereby affecting cellular homeostasis and disease states. |
