β1-AR(β1-Adrenergic Receptor) also known as Adrenergic receptor beta 1, ADRB1 is a member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily. β1-AR is a G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) involved in the regulation of cardiovascular functions. Together with β2-AR, β1-AR is a major β-AR in the heart. β1-AR is activated by catecholamines and couples to Gαs protein, activating adenylate cyclase and increasing intracellular cAMP levels. Beta-blockers (β-AR antagonists), one of the major class of therapeutics in cardiovascular medicine, act mostly by preventing catecholamine binding to β1-AR. β1-AR mediates a wide range of cardiovascular physiological responses and has been of great interest to researchers as a therapeutic target for cardiovascular diseases.
