RSK1 also known as MAPKAP kinase-1, RPS6KA1 is a member of the RSK (ribosomal S6 kinase) family of serine/threonine kinases. RSK1 is a crucial serine/threonine kinase that serves as a key signaling intermediate in various cellular responses to ligand-activated receptor tyrosine kinases. One of the notable aspects of RSK1 is its unique structure, which features two non-identical complete kinase catalytic domains, allowing RSK1 to integrate multiple signaling pathways effectively. This structural complexity is essential for RSK1′s role in mediating cellular processes such as growth, differentiation, and survival, particularly in response to stress signals. RSK1 is predominantly expressed in tissues such as the brain and kidney, where RSK1 contributes to normal neuronal development and function. |
