Product Description

TPOR also known as MPL is crucial for regulating megakaryopoiesis, the process by which megakaryocytes develop and produce platelets from hematopoietic stem cells. TPOR is primarily located in hematopoietic tissues, including bone marrow, spleen, and fetal liver, where c-Mpl mediates the effects of thrombopoietin (TPO), a key cytokine in platelet production. Upon binding to TPO, TPOR activates Janus kinase family members, Tyk2 and JAK2, leading to phosphorylation of Stat5 and Stat3, which translocate to the nucleus to initiate transcription of genes essential for megakaryocyte development and platelet formation. Proper functioning of TPOR is vital, as mutations in c-Mpl have been linked to serious hematological disorders, such as congenital amegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia and thrombocytopenia with absent radii syndrome, highlighting TPOR′s importance in maintaining normal blood cell levels and overall hemostatic balance.
