Product Description

JunD is a member of the JUN family, and a functional component of the AP1 transcription factor complex. JunD protein plays a crucial role as a member of the activator protein-1 (AP-1) transcription factor family, which is essential for regulating gene expression in response to various stimuli, including growth factors and stress signals. JunD protein is primarily located in the nucleus, where JunD forms either homodimers or heterodimers with other Jun and Fos family members, allowing binding to specific DNA sequences known as the TGACTCA consensus sequence. This binding is vital for transcriptional regulation of genes involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis, making JunD a key player in cellular responses to external signals. Notably, structural similarities between JunD and c-Jun, particularly in their C-terminal regions, facilitate dimerization and DNA binding, while divergent N-terminal domains contribute to unique transcriptional activation properties.
