αE/N-Catenin also known as Catenin alpha 1/2, CTNNA1/CTNNA2 belongs to the catenin family of proteins that play an important role in cell adhesion process by connecting cadherins located on the plasma membrane to the actin filaments inside the cell. α E-catenin is abundant in neuroepithelial precursor cells within the developing cortical ventricular zone of the brain, where α E-catenin contributes to the regulation of cell density and the developmental hedgehog signaling pathway. Interactions between α E-catenin and vinculin are particularly important for the assembly of the apical junction complex in epithelial tissues, highlighting α E-catenin′s role in maintaining cellular structure and function.
