LC3B also known as MAP LC3β, MAP1LC3B is a subunit of neuronal microtubule-associated MAP1A and MAP1B proteins, which are involved in microtubule assembly and important for neurogenesis. LC3B plays a vital role in autophagy, a process necessary for cellular homeostasis, by associating with autophagosome membranes during the formation of autophagosomal vacuoles. LC3B also enhances fibronectin mRNA translation in ductus arteriosus cells by interacting with ribosomes and facilitating mRNA sorting and translation. Expression of LC3B is predominantly observed in the heart, testis, brain, and skeletal muscle, highlighting its significance in these tissues.
