| Product Description | |
AMPKγ2 also known as PRKAG2 is a crucial component of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) complex, which plays a vital role in cellular energy homeostasis. Located primarily in the cytoplasm, AMPK is activated in response to low energy states, such as high AMP and low ATP levels, which is essential for maintaining cellular function during metabolic stress. AMPK activation leads to phosphorylation of key regulatory enzymes involved in lipid and cholesterol metabolism, such as hydroxy-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase and acetyl-CoA carboxylase, thereby promoting energy conservation and restoring ATP levels. Unique N-terminal domains of AMPKγ2 and AMPKγ3 facilitate AMP binding, further enhancing the complex′s ability to sense and respond to cellular energy changes. |
