Product Description

VWF(von Willebrand factor) is a vital multimeric glycoprotein essential for hemostasis, synthesized primarily in endothelial cells and stored in Weibel-Palade bodies, as well as in platelets where VWF resides in alpha granules. Upon vascular injury, VWF is rapidly secreted into the plasma, where VWF plays a critical role in blood coagulation by mediating platelet adhesion and aggregation through interaction with glycoprotein Ib (GPIb) receptors on platelets and binding to exposed collagen in the subendothelial matrix. This interaction initiates the formation of a stable blood clot, preventing excessive bleeding. Additionally, VWF serves as a carrier protein for Factor VIII, a crucial cofactor in the coagulation cascade, protecting Factor VIII from proteolytic degradation and ensuring availability during the clotting process.
