Nanog plays a crucial role in maintaining pluripotency and self-renewal of embryonic stem cells. Structurally, Nanog comprises a conserved homeodomain that facilitates specific DNA binding, enabling regulation of genes essential for sustaining the undifferentiated state of stem cells.
