LATS2 also known as KMP is a member of the serine/threonine protein kinase family that plays a crucial role in regulating cell cycle progression, particularly during mitosis. LATS2 protein expression remains consistent throughout the cell cycle, with significant phosphorylation during mitosis vital for function. Dysregulation or loss of LATS2 can lead to aberrant cell cycle progression and has been implicated in various human cancers, highlighting LATS2′s importance as a potential therapeutic target. LATS2 shares highest homology with human LATS1 protein, which negatively regulates Cdc2 kinase activity during early mitosis, further emphasizing LATS2 ′s significance in cellular processes. |
