ELP3 also known as KAT9 is the catalytic acetyltransferase subunit of the Elongator complex. Involved in regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II and tRNA wobble uridine modification. ELP3 contains an iron-sulfur cluster that can bind S-adenosylmethionine, which is necessary for the structural integrity of the Elongator and has been shown to play an important role in mediating global zygotic DNA demethylation of the paternal genome post-fertilization. |
