Product Description

Bik also known as NBK is a protein that is functionally related to Bax, although the two proteins share very little sequence homology. Bik plays a crucial role in regulating apoptosis, acting as a pro-apoptotic factor that promotes cell death in response to various stimuli. Unlike other members of the Bcl-2 family, Bik protein does not contain conserved Bcl-2 homology domains typically associated with anti-apoptotic functions. Bik protein shares a critical BH3 motif with Bax, a well-known pro-apoptotic protein, suggesting similar mechanisms of action. Bik′s ability to induce apoptosis is particularly important in cancer, where evasion of programmed cell death is a hallmark of tumorigenesis. Understanding Bik′s interactions and functions can provide insights into potential therapeutic strategies aimed at reactivating apoptotic pathways in cancer cells.
