MRTF-A also known as MKL1 is a transcriptional regulator involved in a wide range of pathophysiological processes in the cardiovascular system. MRTF-A plays a crucial role in regulating gene expression in response to growth factors, particularly in muscle cells. MRTF-A primarily localizes in the nucleus, where MRTF-A interacts with serum response factor (SRF) to enhance transcriptional activity of muscle-specific genes. This nuclear localization enables MRTF-A to effectively modulate the expression of genes involved in muscle development and cardiovascular function, influencing processes such as myogenesis and vascular smooth muscle differentiation. |
