BTC(Betacellulin) is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family of proteins. plays a crucial role in cellular signaling and growth regulation. BTC is synthesized as a large transmembrane precursor that can be proteolytically cleaved to release a soluble form or function as a membrane-anchored growth factor, facilitating juxtacrine signaling. BTC stimulates homodimerization of ErbB-1 and ErbB-4, and binds and activates various combinations of heterodimeric ErbB receptors, including the oncogenic ErbB-2/ErbB-3 complex, underscoring BTC′s significance in promoting cellular proliferation and differentiation. BTC expression in certain human malignancies suggests potential involvement in tumor growth progression, making BTC a valuable target for therapeutic interventions. |
