ICAM2 also known as CD102 is a member of the intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM) family. ICAM2 plays a crucial role in mediating leukocyte adhesion and migration, essential for immune response and inflammation. ICAM-2 is primarily located on endothelial cells and leukocytes, facilitating interaction between lymphocytes and endothelial cells during immune surveillance and inflammatory responses. Proper functioning of ICAM-2 maintains vascular integrity and regulates immune cell trafficking, making ICAM-2 significant in normal physiological processes and pathological conditions like autoimmune diseases and chronic inflammation. ICAM-2 interacts with lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1), enhancing leukocyte adhesion to endothelium, critical for immune cell recruitment to injury or infection sites. |
