IL-9(Interleukin-9) is a crucial TH2 cytokine that plays a significant role in immune responses, particularly in promoting the growth and differentiation of T helper cells. IL-9 is primarily secreted by activated T cells and has been implicated in various allergic and autoimmune conditions due to its ability to enhance the survival and proliferation of mast cells and eosinophils. IL-9 exerts biological effects through the interleukin-9 receptor, IL-9R, which is composed of at least two subunits: the common gamma chain shared with other interleukin receptors and a specific subunit unique to IL-9R. This receptor interaction is vital for mediating the diverse functions of IL-9, including its role in the pathogenesis of asthma and other allergic diseases, making IL-9 an important target for therapeutic intervention. |
