CD137 also known as ILA , TNFRSF9 is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor family and plays a crucial role in the immune response by delivering a costimulatory signal to T lymphocytes. CD137 is primarily expressed on activated T cells and interacts with an inducible ligand found on B cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells, which is essential for effective antigen presentation and the generation of cytotoxic T cells. Notably, crosslinking of CD137 ligand can induce apoptosis in resting lymphocytes, while CD137 promotes survival of peripheral monocytes by inducing a specific cytokine release profile, mediated by macrophage colony-stimulating factor and, to a lesser extent, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor and interleukin-3. |
