Integrin α4 also known as CD49D, ITGA4 is a member of the integrin alpha chain family of proteins. Integrin α4 plays a crucial role in cell adhesion and migration, primarily by interacting with components of the extracellular matrix and other cells. Integrin α4 is predominantly located on the surface of leukocytes and is essential for leukocyte adhesion to endothelial cells during immune responses. This interaction facilitates immune cell recruitment to sites of inflammation, enabling effective immune surveillance and response. Integrin α4 binding to ligands, such as vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1) and fibronectin, underscores Integrin α4′s importance in mediating cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, which are critical for maintaining tissue integrity and function. |
