TACE also known as ADAM17, CD156B is a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain) family. TACE plays a crucial role in the regulation of inflammatory responses by cleaving the membrane-bound precursor of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) to release its soluble form. This process is vital because TNFα is a key cytokine involved in mediating immune responses and inflammation, and dysregulation can lead to various pathological conditions, including autoimmune diseases and cancer. By facilitating the release of soluble TNFα, TACE not only influences immune cell signaling but also has implications in tumor growth inhibition, making TACE an important target for therapeutic interventions. |
