Product Description

IL-8(Interleukin-8) also known as CXCL8, IL8 is a crucial member of the C-X-C family of chemokines, primarily functioning as a potent chemoattractant for neutrophils, which are essential for the immune response. IL-8 is secreted by various cell types, including macrophages and epithelial cells, and plays a significant role in mediating inflammation and the immune response to infection. Notably, IL-8 is produced as a 99 amino acid precursor that is cleaved to yield a 72 amino acid, biologically active form that is nonglycosylated. The dynamic equilibrium between IL-8 monomers and dimers, both in solution and bound to cell surfaces, is critical for regulating chemotaxis and receptor signaling. Research indicates that IL-8 dimerization acts as a negative regulator of IL-8 receptor function, which is vital for maintaining the balance of immune responses.
