Product Description

CRP(C-reactive protein) belongs to the pentraxin family which also includes serum amyloid P component protein and pentraxin 3. CRP is a crucial acute-phase protein produced primarily by liver epithelial cells in response to inflammation, and CRP levels can rise dramatically during acute inflammatory states, making CRP an important biomarker for various diseases. CRP′s pentameric structure allows binding to phosphocholine, a component found on the surface of damaged cells and pathogens, facilitating their recognition and clearance by the immune system. This binding is essential for opsonization, a process that enhances phagocytosis by immune cells, thereby playing a vital role in the host defense mechanism.
